White Pine

Our entire packaging is made of plants and completely compostable

It’s a rainy Monday, I’m at work and have forgotten my lunch. I decide to abort buying the usual plastic wrapped sorry sandwich and head over to White Pine in the heart of Fitzrovia as I’ve heard good things, particularly on the low waste / using plant based packaging front.

First things first, let’s get the fact this is a veggie/vegan café out the way. The good news here is that they’ve put a lot of thought into the vegan options and they’re not simply the vegetarian option with the cheese taken out! The spring bagel with vegan chicken, asparagus and sriracha mayo tasted like both health and comfort food. It’s pure sorcery! I washed it down with a mango and passionfruit white tea which tasted like the opposite of iced tea. As in it was warm… It can’t have hurt that it arrived in a beautiful crystal cut tumbler.

Speaking of which, the décor really is beautiful in here. A modern, open, clean space, with vines growing up metal structures creating little walls to section off seating nooks, which house mango wood tables and comfy deep teal, velvet armchairs. There are concrete walls alongside a feature wall of exotic birds (no taxidermy here) and a small shop selling unusual photography books, those crystal cut tumblers they cleverly had me try before I buy, plants and other bits of curios you possibly don’t need but you will WANT I TELL YOU!

Yup, I’m sold on the White Pine lifestyle. They’ve created an on-the-go café that makes you want to stay all afternoon in its oasis of calm.  Pity then my lunch hour is up and it’s back to work for me.
